So, guess, who made the pictures.........
Hygiene

About Hygiene:

Since we´re living in the 21. Century, a time where people travel very fast and so do germs and micro organisms, a time of HIV, Hepatitis and new generations of viruses and bacteria, we don´t have a cure or treatment for, a tattoo artist should show responsibility towards his Clients health and safety.

An important word is cross-contamination, meaning the spreading of micro organisms from one host to another.
Simply said: One uses a needle without sterilization for two clients, client nr.2 ends up with the diseases of client nr.1.

What can we do to avoid cross-contamination?

Very easy: Just don´t re-use ANYTHING!
The safest way to avoid cross-contamination is to dispose EVERYTHING that got in touch with blood during the process of making a tattoo.

That is exactly how I work. Everything, that is just involved in the process, but not in direct contact with blood, gets either pouched or taped, so that not even the tiniest sprinkle has a chance. (like the tattoo gun and the tapping sticks, my single stick poking works are done with a disposable one way stick)

Further than that I use only one-way pre-sterilized needles, that also counts for the “Exots” like bone, Flintstone, thorn etc, these needles get carved or chipped and they go before use through a sterilization process like any other surgical equipment, too.
After use they get disposed.

That is, why I can say with confidence, that I guarantee to 100%,  you´ll leave me as healthy as you came.
Sometimes people ask me, when I´m working on the Viking festivals:
“Is it hygienic?”
Yes, it is! It doesn´t help, if you have some fancy studio that looks like a hospital, when you re-use your needles, wich I NEVER do, even tough I´m working under the open sky sometimes. Got me?

I got carefully educated in Germany, a country with very strict regulations, when it comes to health. The department for health in Germany f.ex. even regulated the way you have to move your hands while putting hand desinfection on.
My education included also a Microbiology Seminar, held by Dr. Wille.
That doesn t even bring me close to a medical education, but Dr. Wille put some effort in it, to teach a bunch of tattooist, how the whole world of the tiny, invisible killers work.

An important thing is, that we don´t see the danger, even if the just used handle or towel still “looks” clean, it is most probably not.

Every client gets disinfected before and after tattooing and leaves me with a covered tattoo, either I use spray plaster or a layer of Clingfilm.
Still the tattoo counts as  an open wound and should be treated like that, means, if you join the competition in mud-rolling with a fresh tattoo, you most probably end up with an infection.

So lets start to go through the details:

Electric tattooing

The Clipcord as non-disposable element is pouched (1)

So is the machine (2) and the spray bottle (3)

The working place (4), made of stainless steel is covered with cling-film and paper towel, gets disinfected after every client.

Ink cap, sitting on tongue depressor with Vaseline, the whole set goes in the bin after use  (5)

One way pre-sterilized needle (6) and tube (7)

Tattooing by hand

Working place , spray bottle, ink cap, Vaseline and tongue depressor get the same treatment like at electric tattooing.

Pre-sterilized needle for the dotwork poking. (1)

Pre sterilized bone needle (2) for late stone age medical tattoos

The tools for tapping in Polynesian style (3) with a single-use metal needle comb attached

The “Hammer” (4), notice tape at one end

Do I really have to mention, that I off course wear gloves during the whole process?

I hear and see a lot of things, that really shock me, starting at the very cheap tattoos people get wherever.
BE CAREFUL! If you have only a little doubt about the hygienic circumstances, DON`T DO IT!
I know how the urge to get a tattoo feels, but there is a special kind of memory you do´nt want.

Good, hygienic work cannot be cheap!

There are a lot of people out there who did not dedicate their soul to tattooing, who just see the money or the personal fame in it, these people don´t care about the craft of inking, they don´t care about hygiene and responsibility.
They don´t have the energy and strong will to become something what was seen in ancient times as “holy man”.
It s hard to see the difference between a good tattoo artist and a scratcher for people, who are not in the business, so

-make sure to check out the way the tattooist works, is it clean or a messy place?

- look at pictures of the work of the tattooist. Do you like his style?

-talk to the tattooist. Does the person give you the feeling, that you´re in good hands?

- a tattooist´s quality can be measured on the waiting list, like a restaurant, if it s empty, don’t go there…….

Colours

Since we are a very old studio with a good reputation, we only use approved colours, which are especially made for tattooing and only available from official suppliers, who provide medical equipment, too.
The exact recipe is off course kept secret, but pigment, Alcohol, Witch Hazel and purified water is what a good, professional colour is made of.

The studio exists since 1988, so long term experience can be provided and we use our ink off course in our own skin as well, sometimes we even drink it (cheers, Markus :)
Brands we use or used : Kuro Sumi, Wefa,  Fantasia, Premier Products.
Off course we ´re updated with all rules, regulations and medical warnings of tattoo colours and we only use approved, harmless colour.

No matter, whatever you saw in TV, no one uses actual car paint for tattooing and no one dies or ends up with an amputation because of some red colour, promise.
Stay critical! The truth doesn’t live necessarily in the flat screen!

During my 10 years of tattooing, I had no one who had problems with his or her tattoo after healing phase, not even people who were worried in the beginning because of allergies or light psoriasis.

Still we offer an allergy test for our customers for free.
A typical neo-nordic swastika, people in thre scandinavian communitys have tha strong desire to wear the symbol in a spiritual context, but also just for the beauty of it.
Here the swastika is made of deerheads, symbolizing the prey.........
for Ullr, the god of skiing and archery.
Like his female equivalent, Skadi he is believed by some to have entered the northern mythology, when the norsemen got in contact with the Samii, the first nation people of the very north of Scandinavia.

Surtur on the "Volcano-man", a very faithful customer to our studio.

Surtur is the king of Muspelheim, the home of fire in the nordic mythological universe. He is the biggest enemy of the Aesir Gods, with his flaming sword Surtalogi he cuts the rainbowbridge, that leads to the realms of Asgard and kills the unarmed god Frey, the god of fertility and joy.
A newborn dragon..........

Occasionally we'll share a  reader submission and today we have a piece contributed by Lauren. She sent in this cool hourglass:

Lauren explains:
"I decided on an hourglass after wanting something to represent living your life to the fullest and realizing time is precious. After thinking and going through all the quotes I could find I decided I would get an hourglass to represent it all. Paul Anthony Dobleman at Spider Murphy's Tattoo in San Rafael, CA is a genius. He has done about 75% of my tattoos and he took my idea and ran with it. Exactly what I wanted. Couldn't be happier! The tattoo is located on my left rib cage."
Thanks to Lauren for sharing her timely tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

Without question, Marilyn Monroe has appeared more on Tattoosday than any other celebrity, living or dead. You'd think I'd get tired of seeing her in ink, but I never do. Probably because there are artists out there doing this:

This portrait is on the left leg of Anthony, a photographer I met on Penn Plaza a couple weeks ago. The work is based on this famous photograph:

Anthony credited the artist as Horacio Martinez, at Golden Eagle Tattoo in Santa Barbara, California. The detail in the piece is really spectacular:

When I asked why he chose to ink the legendary actress on his leg, he said, "I was in photo school at the time and we were doing a lot of Hollywood glamor stuff and it was just kind of, on a whim. Why not?"

The piece is two years old and took only three and a half hours for Horacio to complete.

To see all the Marilyn Monroe work that has appeared on Tattoosday, click here. You can also see Anthony's work as a photographer on Tumblr here, or you can visit his website here.

Thanks to Anthony for sharing this incredible tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

Back on the first of July, I met Frank as I was headed home through Penn Station. He shared this tattoo on his lower leg:

Frank explained that the tattoo artist was Gus, who works out of John's Tattoos in Islip, New York. He elaborated, telling me, "I originally wanted a koi fish ... not too traditional, but a little bit different. Some modern twist on it ... Gus put the traditional with the modern and there it is."

Thanks to Frank for sharing his koi fish and cherry blossoms with us here on Tattoosday!

(Shahih, HR. Al-Bukhari no. 5933 dan dari sahabat Ibnu ‘Umar radhiyallahu ‘anhuma no. 5937)

Maka Abdullah bin Masud berkata:

Abdullah bin Masud berkata:
Pergilah dan lihat! Wanita itupun menemui istri Abdullah bin Masud. (Shahih, H.R. Muslim no. 3966)

Two weeks ago I spotted Jacqueline and knew I had to ask her about this large tattoo in the center of her back:

Jacqueline explained that she and her older brother got this same tattoo in the same spot. "We just wanted to get a matching tattoo," she told me, "and, you know, we're both blood relatives". It's as simple as that.

She credits Seth Wood with this tattoo. Seth currently works out of Saved Tattoo in Brooklyn. Work by Seth appeared previously on Tattoosday just last month here.

Thanks to Jacqueline for sharing this amazing tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

Earlier this month, I met Andrea while waiting for the A train.

Andrea is covered with tattoos, estimating she has over 50% of her body inked. I always feel privileged when someone so dedicated to the art of tattoo agrees to share their work. Andrea offered up this amazing pin-up on her right forearm:

This amazing tattoo is based on the work of  legendary pin-up artist Gil Elvgren. The tattoo artist responsible for this incredible work is Shane O'Neill, who is based in Middletown, Delaware. The detail in this piece is incredible.

Work by Shane has appeared previously on our site here.

Thanks to Andrea for sharing her amazing work with us here on Tattoosday!

Last month, I ran into Natalie on Seventh Avenue and 24th Street. She had several tattoos, but shared this geisha, with butterfly wings, floating on the top of her back:

She got this about six years ago in the city of Leeds from an artist named Diego.

When I asked why she got this particular tattoo, she replied, "I kind of just wanted something that was quite girly, yet strong at the same time."

Natalie is a professional photographer whose work can be seen on her website here.

Thanks to Natalie for sharing this cool tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

Pertanyaan:

Apa kata Alkitab tentang tattoo /merajah tubuh?

Jawaban:

Earlier this week, up in Columbus Circle (see, I don't spend ALL my time in Penn Station!), I ran into Nick, a much-inked individual who kindly allowed me to photograph this tattoo on his left shin:

Nick explained that his friend James tattooed this Pedestrian Crossing sign on him. When I asked him why he chose to get this iconic street sign on his leg, he replied, simply, "We were just bored, and I walk everywhere".

Thanks to Nick for sharing this cool tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

"This tattoo is for my father," Kristen told me, as we sat talking at the laundromat earlier this month, "because he's my anchor and he's the only man that could ever hold me down and take care of me."

She credits an artist named Twace who works in Brooklyn. [On October 4, 2011, I learned Twace is working at Citizen Ink.] Twace does all her work and is working with Kristen on her sleeve, which is based on family and inspired by Sailor Jerry flash.

When I asked her about coming up with the design, she praised Twace, her artist:

"What I love about him is that we designed the entire piece together ... I paint and do artistic things, as well, which you find [can be] very difficult with tattoo artists to put your inspiration in ... The heart rope was my idea, the color scheme, we basically worked together, bounced ideas off each other, which makes it even more like a special event."
Thanks to Kristen for sharing this cool tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

A new mom did this tattoo to show her love to her prince who born in the month of LEO!
You are such a Rock Mum Yash....!!!

Forsooth, the Branden Rose is a real soul, you can go see her activities get all Tumblr-ed over at Europa of Naimes, where she and other bright-souled Sundergirdians keep the energy of the Half-Continent roiling.

I go there to remind myself that the Half-Continent is not just me in a room on my own in front of a blank screen.

Thank you, Branden Rose, thank you.
